RUSH IS YOUR BEST OPPORTUNITY

The best job opportunity for students who would like to work at Virginia Tech Services, Inc. (VTS) is to work during Rush. For VTS, Rush comes at the beginning of fall and spring semesters, which is when business in the college store industry is at its peak.

Rush work is temporary, part-time employment that runs from one to three weeks before the first day of classes until the beginning of the second week of classes. Rush positions last from several days to several weeks depending on our need and the employee's availability to work. VTS hires fall semester Rush clerks from April until fall classes begin, and spring semester Rush clerks from November until spring classes begin. Look for the Now-Hiring banners to go up at University Bookstore, Volume Two, and Dietrick General Store.

Some Rush clerks are held over for the semester depending on our need to fill hours and the employee's performance and availability. Although VTS does review outside applications to fill open hours, because Rush clerks have already worked for us, we try to place them in open positions when feasible rather than hiring from the outside.

All VTS employees are expected to work during Rush, so it is critical for hourly employment at VTS that applicants are available to work during the Rush period. If you have another job to which you are obligated to report during Rush such as a job in food service, it may not be feasible to schedule you to work Rush at VTS.
